Meaning behind the name
The name NISSI comes from the Hebrew word (nes) which means banner or standard. In the Bible, one of the names of God is Jehovah-Nissi translates to "The Lord is My Banner" Exodus 17:15. A banner is not just decoration, it is raised up in times of battle. This name was given by Moses after the Israelites' victory over the Amalekites to symbolize God as a rallying point, a source of victory, and a sign of protection and divine guidance for His people.
OUR STORY
A Brother and Sister Duo who have always shared a love for hoodies. Growing up in Canada, winter was more than a season, it's a way of life. Long, cold months meant living in layers, and hoodies have become our go-to for comfort, warmth, and style. From job sites to hockey rinks, farms to city streets. "Raise The Banner" isn't just our slogan. It's a reminder to stand tall and work hard everywhere you go. Over time, we noticed that most sweatshirts did not hold up. After a few washes the softness would fade, or the fit would change, and the "cozy" factor was gone. That started our hunt for something better that was not hundreds of dollars. A new favourite hoodie that is your go to. One that was built for everyday life, durable and infused with meaning.
That is where Nissi Dept was born. After years of talking about hoodies, we decided to make our own. The word Nissi comes from the Hebrew word for banner. Exodus 17:15 "And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-Lord-Is-My-Banner". For us this brand is more than clothing, it is a declaration. NISSI DEPT represents more than just a brand. It is a statement of PURPOSE. Our designs are meant to empower us to be bold. To embody courage, faith, and strength. Just as a banner was lifted high in battle as a rallying point and a sign of victory, we want our hoodies to carry the same spirit of courage and faith. This is not just our project, it is a family journey. Our spouses and children are part of the vision because we see this as a legacy brand. Something that does not just stay in our closets, but gets passed down in the story, purpose, and impact.
